A Story of Dryths

Early in the first age of the world there were many breeds of dragons scattered across the globe. The Ikta dragon was truly one of the darkest of them all. Most dragons are territorial, but few killed or hunted outside their lands. The Ikta never stayed in one place for long though, and would often kill anything in their paths while they traveled.

One such day they came across a small village of humans. As usual, they flew in and breathed their fiery breath and crushed with their sharp claws. They didn't realize that the goddess Laurelin was among the people. Outraged she called upon her power and stopped the violence raging around her. She cast off her human disguise and spread her wings. The dragons glanced around uneasily, looking for the caster of such a powerful spell. When their eyes fell upon her they fell to the ground at once to kneel, afraid of being struck down. Laurelin never enjoyed death and punishment though, so her mind came up with a better plan.

With a word all fifteen of the great dragons vanished, in their place stood ten humans. "You become what you hate, that is my decision" she said simply, and vanished. To her surprise the females of the dragon group held a great love of life as a human. To such an extent that they lived full lives traveling from village to village. They could never stay long due to the children each of the women bore. The half dragon, half human children were outcasted. So the stayed close and wandered the lands as a group, over time the group grew to great numbers.
